emerge diversion program
Black. Feminist. Free.
why diversion?
A free world means a world without prisons. Until that day comes, WWAV seeks to reduce interactions with the criminal-legal system and work to maintain the critical social and familial fabric of our communities.
With over 35 years of experience working with some of our most marginalized neighbors—including sex workers and substance users—we are committed to respecting our clients’:
Autonomy
Brilliance
Unique needs
Lived experience
Our program seeks to support clients by:
Connecting clients with the resources they need to survive
Providing a judgement free environment where everyone can be heard
Empowering our clients with the skills they need to advocate for themselves
reproductive justice and the criminal legal system
Women With A Vision’s work is grounded in reproductive justice.
Reproductive Justice is the human right to control our bodies, our sexuality, our gender, our work and our reproduction. That right can only be achieved when all Black women and girls have the complete economic, social, and political power and resources to make healthy decisions about our bodies, our families and our communities in all areas of our lives.
For more than 35 years, WWAV has seen the ways the mass criminalization of Black women, girls, and LGBTQ+ communities stands in the way of reproductive justice. WWAV has fought back by working to improve the health of our communities, reduce the harms of the criminal-legal system involvement, and support our neighbors as they seek to care for themselves and their families.
